How we price used graphics cards

Every number on this site comes from real eBay listings, collected by us each day. Here is exactly what we do with them.

1. Collect

Once a day we search eBay UK and eBay US for every card we track (68 models from NVIDIA, AMD and Intel) in the Graphics/Video Cards category, using eBay's official Browse API. We ask for used, open-box and refurbished listings, both Buy It Now and auctions.

2. Clean

We throw out anything that isn't one whole, working desktop card: faulty and "for parts" cards, "no display" or artefacting cards, boxes, backplates, fans, coolers and water blocks sold on their own, laptops and external GPU boxes, whole PCs, job lots and bundles, workstation cards and wanted ads. A title must name exactly one card we track; "3070 or 3080" is left out. Buy It Now prices far below the rest for that card (under 35% of its median) are dropped too: they are almost always a part or a scam.

3. Typical price

The typical price is the middle (median) asking price of the Buy It Now listings for that card, including postage, after trimming outliers. Each condition gets its own figure (open box, used, refurbished), and we need at least 4 listings before we call anything typical. These are asking prices, not sold prices: what sellers want today. We record the figure every day, which builds our price history.

4. Deal score

Each Buy It Now is compared with the typical price for the same card and condition. "Save £80" means £80 under typical. Anything 40% or more under typical is flagged "too good to be true?" and never shown as a best deal. Auctions show the current bid only, never a score.

5. Performance and value

Performance is the PassMark G3D Mark from videocardbenchmark.net, scaled so the fastest card we track is 100. Value is pounds per performance point: the lower, the more card you get for your money. The "plays well at" line is a rough guide from that score, not a frame-rate promise.

6. Seller checks

"Trusted" means an eBay Top Rated seller, or 98%+ positive feedback from 50+ ratings. Sellers with under 10 feedback or under 97% positive are flagged, and "safe deals only" hides them. We also flag listings that mention mining, water blocks, OEM (prebuilt PC) cards and missing fans.

7. US listings

US prices are converted with the European Central Bank's daily rates. The landed price adds 20% UK import VAT; graphics cards carry 0% customs duty. Courier handling fees can add a little more.

What we can't see

We can't see sold prices, inside the box, or how a card was really used. Always read the listing, check the photos, and buy through eBay checkout so the eBay Money Back Guarantee covers you.
